WATER FOR PEOPLE GUIDING PRINCIPLES

Help People Help Themselves. Water For People's interest is exclusively in helping people in developing countries help themselves. Water For People strongly believes that project beneficiaries, men and women, must be actively involved in all aspects of a project -- planning, design, implementation, cost-sharing and operation/maintenance -- to nurture local autonomy, initiative, management and ownership.

N.C. WATER FOR PEOPLE BACKGROUND

We are a committee of the North Carolina American Water Works Association / Water Environment Association, associated with the nation Water for People organization headquartered in Denver, CO. To further the goals of the National organization, the North Carolina Section of Water for People formed a partnership with curamericas (formerly Andean Rural Health Care), a Non-Profit Health provider headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina.  Curamericas has been working in the poorest and most remote areas of Bolivia since 1983. In 1992 the North Carolina Section of Water for People (NC WFP) was formed and began the relationship with curamericas. This has led to a partnership where NC WFP provides funding and technical assistance to curamericas and their in-country organization, El Consejo de Salud Rural Andino (CSRA) to provide safe and sustainable drinking water.

We have traveled to Bolivia numerous times since we began working there (See Bolivia Trips). We have helped with projects in the areas of Montero (in the Amazon Basin), Ancoraimes, Carabuco, and Puerto Acosta (in the Altiplano).  Our committee has plans to send down one group each year comprised primarily of those members that have never been to Bolivia before. Once you have been there, your life will be changed forever.

WE HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS SITE!
