3rd ANNUAL N.C. WATER FOR PEOPLE / N.C. OUTREACH GOLF TOURNAMENT Weather Report Thursday, May 6, 1999 - A cold front is moving through. The best chance of getting steady rain for the week. The weather people say take your umbrella and be prepared to take cover. Yeah right! For the 40 + participants in the 3rd Annual North Carolina Water for People / North Carolina Outreach golf tournament those proved to be idle threats. Except for some low clouds and light rain at the very beginning, the sun dominated the day. Everyone who played can attest that it was a great day to play golf and raise money for two worthy causes; North Carolina Water for People and North Carolina Outreach, both NC AWWA / WEA committees. The first, and biggest way we raised money was through our sponsors. We had 25 different sponsors in 4 different categories, plus our beer sponsor:
In order to emphasize the
importance of our sponsors and to give them the credit they deserve, we will be putting
them in a special section of the NC Water for People website. The site is located at www.ncwater4people.org . We will also be proudly In addition to our sponsorships, we sold mulligans for $5 per player. There was a hole-in-one contest for a Jeep Grand Cherokee. We charged $5 per player for a shot at it. Finally, we sold the newest version of the Water for People golf shirt. This is a high quality, 100% non-shrink cotton shirt, with a 2 color embroidered Water for People logo. We have a limited supply in stock but we are taking orders for more. The cost is $29.00 for a normal shirt and $31.00 for one with a pocket. You can contact Peter Weed, 828-254-9646 to place an order. All told we have raised nearly $5,000, to be split between the two committees. The tournament itself was a Captains Choice and included a Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin. We had beautiful and unique trophies (donated by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities) for First, Second and Third place teams, along with gift certificates. There were trophies and gift certificates for the Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin, as well. The winning team was Gary Kraynock, Craig VanDussen, John Dale and Mike Rogers with a score of 63. John Dale won the Longest Drive and Mike Osborne won the Closest to the Pin So everyone who played and those of you who didnt, mark your calendars for next years tournament on the Thursday of Water Week. This tournament is a fun event, worth your time and money and is going to get bigger. Be a part of something special! John W. McLaughlin, P.E.Chairman, NC Water for People W.K. Dickson & Co., Inc |
