4TH ANNUAL NC WATER FOR PEOPLE / NC OUTREACH

GOLF TOURNAMENT

What can you say about a golf tournament? It's as simple as going fishing or taking a hike. It's easy…it beats working, and…

YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE!

Seventy-one players had one great day. Not only was the weather picture perfect but the food was great, the beverage cart ladies wonderful, and some players left with some pretty awesome trophies. Thanks to those seventy-one players and the twenty-three hole sponsors ($250 each), North Carolina Water For People and Outreach committees collected an impressive $11,800. This was our most successful tournament yet.

We owe a lot to those sponsors who make all the difference on the bottom line. This year Water For People will be able to provide twelve Chlorinators to water co-ops in Bolivia, fund a new $3500 water system in an area so remote that vehicles can not get to it, and Outreach will continue working on projects in eastern North Carolina that has aided the most disadvantaged amongst us. So check out that sponsor list. You will see some great people and groups listed there. Be sure to congratulate anyone you recognize for there support of very worthy causes.

But back to golf… there were some really swingers amongst the group. By all accounts the longest drive was a scorcher that even Tiger Woods would envy. That award went to Tom Brown (I regret that it wasn’t measured). Tom was also on the winning team who scored an amazing 61. Team players included John Southern, Gray Flinchum, Thomas Brown, and Dell Brown. The most accurate shot or Closest-to the-Pin award went to Mel Nelson.

So for you who wished you could have been there… don’t worry. We will have all new trophies waiting you next year. But don’t forget the date, Thursday, May 10, 2001. We be at the Tradition and we won’t leave until you stop coming.

PLEASE, DON'T LET THAT HAPPEN!
