Chlorinator Project in Cooperation with Consejo de Salud Rural Andino (CSRA) and the Peace Corps
Over the last several years, NC Water for People and CSRA have developed a project to provide and maintain chlorination systems in the Montero area of Bolivia. In addition to donating and transporting down dozens of chlorinator pumps and helping to install them, in 2002 we combined resources with the Peace Corps and Curamericas (CSRA) to expand this project with a "circuit rider". A Peace Corps volunteer fulfills this role by traveling throughout the region assessing the performance of chlorination systems, repairing pumps, teaching local water co-op workers how to maintain their chlorination systems, and supporting CSRA in educating the public about the benefits of good hygiene and chlorination.
The report and PowerPoint presentations linked below give a little glimpse into the circuit rider program and the challenges faced by introducing chlorination to the communities. The report is in Spanish and English, and the presentations are in Spanish, just as they were presented in the Bolivian communities.
